105th Anniversary of Death of Independence Leader Maximo

Guantanamo, ( Venceremos)—Cuba is commemorating the 105th anniversary of the
death of independence leader Maximo Gomez with several activities
throughout the country.
The Information, Press and Publicity Office of the Presidency of the
Dominican Republic in coordination with the Cuban Radio and Television
Institute (ICRT) are scheduled to launch a book on Thursday at the Havana
based ALBA House on the life of the independence leader.
As part of the commemorations a documentary directed by Ramon Elias Reyes
will be presented on Thursday at a Havana theater.
According to Sierra Maestra website, the book is the result of an
investigation proposed by Dominican President Leonel Fernandez aimed at
getting detailed information on the historic figure of the Cuban
independence struggle against Spanish colonialism.
A delegation from the Dominican Republic headed by Rafael Nuñez, Minister
of Information, Press and Publicity of the Dominican Presidency, will
participate in the activities programmed for the occasion.
